Community Support Services

Talking Changes

Talking Changes is a local psychological therapy service, to which you can self-refer. It is useful if you are looking for more than the time-limited counselling that the University Counselling Service can provide.

The Samaritans are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

You can contact them by telephone 116 123 or email

If you believe you are in crisis

We recommend you contact your GP surgery in the first instance, or out-of-hours NHS support 111. Your GP can provide urgent medical/psychiatric attention or referral.

If the situation is life-threatening

Go to A&E or if you are unable to do this, call 999 for an ambulance.

Emergency Contraception

Also referred to as the 'Morning After Pill'. You can get this for free from the Sexual Health Hub (GUM) at University Hospital (see below) or from a participating pharmacy such as Boots in Market Place or on North Road.
