College Day

College Day at Hild Bede is always a highlight of the year, bringing the entire college together in celebration, reflection, and pure joy before the dreaded onset of exam season.

Hild Bede proudly holds the title of the first college to ever host a College Day - starting the tradition when our two founding colleges united, setting the tone for celebration across Durham. Unlike most colleges that wait until the end of summer term, we kick things off early, turning the start of term into something truly special. It’s our way of embracing the season and finding joy even with exams on the horizon.

The festivities begin with a champagne breakfast, setting the tone for a day filled with tradition and excitement. From there, we gather for a morning service in Durham Cathedral - a moment of unity and pride that offers us an opportunity to pay our respects to the Venerable Bede.

The afternoon bursts into life with live music, laughter, and the much-anticipated sports and societies awards, where we honour the incredible contributions of our fellow students. Whether you're performing, cheering from the crowd, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

As the sun sets, the celebrations continue into the night, creating memories that last long after the day is done.
