The SRC Levy
The Hild Bede SRC membership levy is currently £59 per academic year or £177 for your whole degree (regardless of whether you are doing a 3 or 4 year degree).
You must have purchased an SRC levy to be able to purchase a Freshers' Week Wristband.Other benefits of the levy can be found below!
If you have any questions, please do contact the SRC President who will be able to assist you.
We would like every student to feel able to get involved in the SRC. If finances are an issue or you wish to discuss a different payment plan, please contact the SRC President or Treasurer.
Just some of the wonderful things the levy gets you...
1) Cheaper rates to events run by the SRC!
This includes things like Freshers Week (which is exclusively accessible for SRC members), College Day, Winter Ball, Summer Ball and more! Many of these discounts are significant, and add up across your time here, meaning the levy tends to 'pay for itself' by the time you have completed your degree.
2) A Financially Supported Common Room
Alongside our ticketed events, which you get to access for cheaper rates, your levy money may be used throughout your degree to help fund our social calendar - this includes everything from balls to bops to bar events. The more people that pay for the levy, the more money the common room has to give back to you through our events and facilities, improving everyone's College experience!
3) Cheaper access to our Clubs and Societies
You need to be an SRC member to join any of our college clubs and societies at a subsidised rate.
4) A Full-Time SRC President
They are your first point of contact for most issues and are here to make your time at college run smoothly. They uphold the efficiency of the SRC and oversee the planning, running, and finances of all SRC amenities, ensuring that that you have the best time possible throughout your years as a member of college.
5) Representation at both College and University levels
The president represents specific issues that matter to Hild Bede students to members of college management, Durham Student Organisation office and even reaches the upper echelons through the University's Executive Committee - where the big decisions are made. It is because we have a paid member of staff working for the SRC that the president has the time, resources and power to carry out effective representation, ultimately to the benefit of students within College and across the University.
6) SRC Equipment and Facilities
Paying your levy ensures that the SRC, and its concomitant teams, are well equipped, funding a variety of sports equipment and relevant facilities, thousands of pounds' worth of tech equipment, music facilities, theatrical spaces, band equipment, and bar and common room amenities such as our pool tables, darts boards, and record player.
7) Grant money and Extra Support (upon application)
The SRC provides different monetary grants throughout the year to different sports teams and societies. There are also grants available to individuals for the purpose of making SRC activities more accessible.
8) Voting rights and the ability to run for SRC positions of responsibility
As the SRC is a democratic organisation, all members have the right to vote for who represents them. Yearly elections take place in Epiphany term as well as termly SRC meetings which give you the chance to directly interact with all of your officers, and bring forth any ideas or issues which you think would benefit the Common Room as a whole.
9) Targeted Student-Led Welfare Provisions
The SRC welfare team provides a range of welfare from free sanitary products and sexual health supplies to campaigns about student housing, alcohol safety and grief.
Paying the Hild Bede SRC levy gets you a voice in college leadership, access to events (often at higher priority and lower cost), comprehensive welfare support, and the opportunity to help shape student life.
