So you're thinking about coming to Hild Bede?

The College of St Hild and St Bede is one of the oldest and biggest colleges in Durham, replete with beautiful and extensive grounds, and some of the most jaw-dropping views in the city. Sitting on neither the Hill nor the Bailey, Hild Bede is Durham’s only river college, and maintains this geographical independence on our temporary grounds at Rushford Court.

Rushford Court, our current home, is a similarly stunning location. It boasts the luxury of modern accommodation and brand-new facilities in a college which continues to be steeped in history, culture, and tradition. This site is a stone's throw from the city centre - making it one the closest self-catered colleges to coveted local amenities such as supermarkets, the train station, and the bus station. The site also boasts social and study spaces including our library, bar, gym, and common room. All in all, it provides an excellent location and fantastic facilities whilst our Riverside site undergoes some much needed TLC.

Whilst blessed with the buildings we have, Hild Bede is far more than the site we reside on - wherever we may be there is a thriving college community that you can become a part of, making it a second home to many!

You will remain a member of College throughout your time at Durham, and we welcome you to stay involved once you have flown our nest as part of our historic and ever-developing alumni network.

During your time at Hild Bede, you will be represented by the SRC (Student Representative Council), Hild Bede's student organisation. Where other colleges at Durham have a separate JCR (Junior Common Room) for undergraduates and MCR (Middle Common Room) for postgraduates, ours is combined, fostering a vibrant and interconnected community with plenty of events, sports, and societies for you to get involved in through the SRC.
